Event Details

IKAM Productions is thrilled to bring back to the Atlanta stage Ntozake Shange's phenomenal play, for colored girls who have considered suicide when the rainbow is enuf. In addition to a new cast, the play will be the theatrical directorial debut of Jasmine Guy, widely known for her role as Whitley Gilbert on A Different World.

Guy, who grew up in Atlanta, has roots in dance and theatre with her most recent theatre project, Raising Cane. “I am excited to be coming home for yet another transition in my career,” she states. “This play means so much too so many people and it is a piece that truly speaks to me – on various levels.” Guy is committed to bringing the feel of Hollywood and Broadway to the south with her direction of for colored girls…

Sure to captivate audiences, Shange's legendary choreopoem about the African-American female journey through America is portrayed through the poetry, dancing and narrative of a slate of talented actresses who literally become the well-known colorful ladies of the rainbow. Both a joyous celebration of a unique culture and a wrenchingly real portrait of the struggle of an oppressed minority, for colored girls… tells the timeless story through 20 beautiful vignettes that will inspire laughter and tears for the passion and pain of the black woman's experience.

Make sure you catch it this time - especially if you missed it in 2006!!!
